How To Wear: The Distressed Skinny Jean

Yes, we’ve seen distressed jeans for years…and double yes, we’ve been asked by our grandparents if we actually bought jeans with holes in them…and triple yes, guilty.

Who can resist them though!?!

Especially the super cute, figure hugging, skinny jeans paired perfectly with springs hottest strappy sandals!  You need these in your closet…NOW.

I love all these ones above, especially the dark ones.  Ok, let’s get to it…

Here are my TIPS for picking out the best Distressed Skinny Jean:

1. Color

  • Dark – The darker the color, the dressier they can be.  The are also more forgiving.  Dark colors on the bottom automatically make you look skinnier.  I like to have the option with dark jeans to dress them up or dress them down.
  • Light – The lighter the jean, the more casual they’ll be.  Keep these tips in mind when you’re shopping for these jeans.  It all depends on what you’re buying them mainly for.  It’s always nice to have one of each though.

2. Fit

  • Waist – The waist should fit just perfect, not too tight, not too loose.  You don’t want any gapping in the back nor muffin top.  Jeans typically stretch out a half size or more, so keep that in mind also.
  • Leg – The leg should fit a little snug because the jeans will stretch.  These are skinny jeans after all…they should feel snug.  Not TOO snug though.  You don’t want to cut off circulation to your feet!  They should also be fitted all the way down to your ankle, at least the bottom of your calf.  There should be a taper in the jean all the way down, no boot cut.
  • Length – The length can vary on these.
    • Ankle – If you buy them so they come to just the top of your ankle without rolling the hem or anything, they will make your legs look shorter than they are if you only wear flats.  Heels will be most important when wearing ankle jeans.
    • Longer – If you buy jeans that are a little longer (like to your heel), you can wear them with heels OR with flats, because when you wear them with heels, you can roll them once or twice to fit right to the heel (make sure they don’t look bulky).  You can unroll them with flats or whatever you need to do.  This is my preference.  I like to get the most out of my purchases!
  • Rise – The rise trend is going up.  As in, rises are rising.  Higher waisted jeans are in style these days.  I like them more, because they hold you in, if you’re feeling a little conscious about your stomach area here and there.  The only thing you need to watch is that your bottom doesn’t look too long when you have a high waisted jean.  The pockets need to be positioned correctly, so that your behind looks proportional.  Sometimes the pockets can be too high, watch for this!

3. Shoes

  • You can wear all types of shoes with these!  See the pictures above, strappy sandals, wedges, pointy toe pumps.  The ones that are most on trend right now are the strappy lace up sandals.

I hope that helps with how to wear the distressed skinny jean! As always, leave me your comments and questions! Good luck finding your perfect fit! I know you will, the ones above are a great start.
